The mistake we see most often is booking the collection for the morning of the flight. It feels efficient. It is also the version of moving day where one delay — a late handover from the landlord, a lift that is out of order, a van stuck behind an accident on the A4 — means choosing between your belongings and your plane.

A plan that holds:

Collection two days before the flight, ideally. One day at the absolute minimum. Your things leave, you spend the last night with a suitcase and an airbed or at a friend's, and the flight day is only about getting to Schiphol.

Key handover after the collection, not before. Most landlords will do an inspection on an empty flat. Arrange it for the day after we collect.

Pack the suitcase first. Whatever is flying with you goes in the bag before anything else is boxed. Passports and chargers have ended up in storage more than once.

Tell us your flight date when you book, not just the collection date. It changes how we prioritise the slot.

A common position in Hoofddorp, and a reasonable one. You have a one- or two-year assignment abroad, maybe longer, and you do not know yet whether the next chapter is back here or somewhere else entirely.

Yes, and it is worth asking, because a lot of Hoofddorp works on rosters rather than office hours.

Cabin crew, pilots, ground handling, air traffic, airport security, cargo — a large share of the people living around Schiphol work early starts, late finishes and irregular days off. A collection slot at 10:00 on a Tuesday is useless if you are flying out at 06:00 that day and landed at 23:00 the night before.

The same applies to delivery. If you are coming back from a posting and landing on a specific date, tell us the flight and we will plan the redelivery for a day or two afterwards rather than the evening you arrive.

Most of Hoofddorp is recent housing, built from the 1980s onwards, which makes it one of the easier places we load from. The streets are wide, parking is usually close to the door, and the taller blocks generally have lifts. A room load is often on the van well inside the minimum time.

If you are in an apartment block with a reserved lift or a management company that needs notice for moving days, sort that before you book and tell us the window. We load at street level, if elevator is missing, so bring what you can down before we arrive.
