Intercity Moving Service - Move Between Cities Easily

MoverMate provides an affordable intercity moving service across the Netherlands for people relocating between Dutch cities. Van + driver at €49 per hour, fuel calculated separately. Amsterdam to Rotterdam, Den Haag to Utrecht, Eindhoven to Breda, Enschede to Zwolle — and every other combination. Same service, same rate, no intercity surcharges.

The Netherlands is one of the most compact countries in Europe. The longest domestic move — Maastricht to Groningen — takes under three and a half hours by road. Most intercity moves between major cities take between 30 minutes and two hours of driving. That compactness is what makes a van + driver the practical alternative to a traditional long-distance mover.

Why Intercity Moves Happen So Often in the Netherlands

The Netherlands has an unusually mobile population. People change cities for work, study, relationships, housing affordability, and quality of life — and the distances are short enough that intercity moves feel routine rather than disruptive.

A new job in another city. The Netherlands has strong regional economies. A tech role in Eindhoven, a media job in Hilversum, a finance position in Amsterdam, a government role in Den Haag — career moves frequently mean city moves.

Housing affordability. Amsterdam and Utrecht are expensive. People move to Almere, Amersfoort, Gouda, Hilversum, or Dordrecht for more space at lower cost while commuting to work. This is one of the most common intercity move patterns we see.

University transitions. Students move to a new city for studies, switch cities for a master's programme, relocate for an internship, or leave their university city after graduation.

Relationship changes. Partners moving in together often means one person relocating to the other's city.

Quality of life. Families trading a Randstad apartment for a house with a garden in a smaller city. Professionals leaving the west for the east. Expats discovering that their first Dutch city is not their best Dutch city.

The Dutch Route Network — Every Major Route with Drive Times

The Netherlands measures roughly 300 km north to south and 200 km east to west. No two major cities are more than 3.5 hours apart by road. Here are the actual drive times for the routes we handle most frequently:

Randstad internal (under 45 min): Amsterdam ↔ Utrecht: 35 min | Amsterdam ↔ Almere: 25 min | Rotterdam ↔ Den Haag: 20 min | Rotterdam ↔ Dordrecht: 20 min | Den Haag ↔ Delft: 15 min | Den Haag ↔ Leiden: 20 min | Den Haag ↔ Gouda: 20 min | Utrecht ↔ Amersfoort: 20 min | Delft ↔ Rotterdam: 15 min

Randstad to surrounding cities (45–75 min): Amsterdam ↔ Eindhoven: 1h 15 min | Amsterdam ↔ Arnhem: 1h | Amsterdam ↔ Hilversum: 25 min | Rotterdam ↔ Breda: 35 min | Rotterdam ↔ Eindhoven: 1h | Utrecht ↔ Nijmegen: 50 min | Utrecht ↔ Zwolle: 50 min | Den Haag ↔ Breda: 45 min | Amersfoort ↔ Apeldoorn: 35 min

Cross-country (75–120 min): Amsterdam ↔ Zwolle: 1h 15 min | Amsterdam ↔ Enschede: 2h | Rotterdam ↔ Arnhem: 1h | Den Haag ↔ Eindhoven: 1h 15 min | Eindhoven ↔ Arnhem: 50 min | Nijmegen ↔ Enschede: 1h 10 min

Longest routes (2+ hours): Amsterdam ↔ Groningen: 2h | Amsterdam ↔ Maastricht: 2h 15 min | Rotterdam ↔ Groningen: 2h 30 min | Eindhoven ↔ Groningen: 2h 30 min

Every one of these is a single-trip job. No overnight stops. No relay crews. Loading, driving, unloading — typically within half a day.

How Intercity Pricing Works — No Surcharges

The rate is €49 per hour for the van and driver. Fuel is calculated separately based on driving distance. No intercity surcharges. The same rate applies whether the move is across the street or across the country.

Total cost depends on three things: loading time (how long to load your packed belongings), driving time (the actual drive between cities), and unloading time (typically slightly less than loading). Fuel is added based on actual kilometres.

The van + driver model has a specific cost advantage for intercity moves: you pay for one driver during the drive, not a crew of 2–4. On a 1-hour drive between cities, that difference alone saves €50–€200 compared to a traditional mover.

What Intercity Moves Typically Cost

Short intercity (Delft → Den Haag, Dordrecht → Rotterdam, Utrecht → Amersfoort): 1.5–2.5 hours. Total: approximately €112–€167.

Medium intercity (Amsterdam → Utrecht, Rotterdam → Breda, Den Haag → Gouda): 2–3 hours. Total: approximately €190–€240.

Longer intercity (Amsterdam → Eindhoven, Rotterdam → Arnhem, Den Haag → Zwolle): 3–4 hours. Total: approximately €220–€290.

Cross-country (Amsterdam → Enschede, Rotterdam → Groningen): 4–5.5 hours. Total: approximately €320–€370.

Estimates assume a one-bedroom or studio move with items packed and ready. Larger volumes add loading time. We always provide a specific estimate before you commit.

The Van + Driver Advantage for Between-City Relocations

Included: a clean, spacious moving van, a professional driver, loading at your current address, the full drive between cities, and unloading at your new address.

Not included: packing materials, furniture disassembly or assembly, carrying items through building interiors, or storage. You pack and prepare — we transport.

Why this model works particularly well for intercity:

One driver, not a crew. Traditional movers charge for 2–4 people for the entire move including the drive. With MoverMate, driving time costs €49/hour — not €100–€200/hour for a crew sitting in a truck.

No return-trip surcharge. Some traditional movers charge for the empty return trip. We do not.

Same-day flexibility. Traditional intercity movers often require booking weeks ahead. We can frequently accommodate same-day or next-day intercity moves.

Direct WhatsApp communication. One driver, one WhatsApp thread, real-time updates on arrival time. No call centres, no ticket numbers.

Intercity-Specific Preparation Tips

Pack completely the day before. Intercity moves have a higher baseline cost because of driving time. Every minute saved on loading has a proportionally bigger impact.

Disassemble all furniture. Faster loading reduces the single biggest variable cost on an intercity move.

Arrange parking at both ends. Two different cities means two different parking situations. Check both in advance.

Share both full addresses when booking. Fuel is calculated on the actual route. Precise addresses mean an accurate estimate.

Coordinate key handovers across cities. You may need to return keys in one city and collect in another on the same day. Share these time constraints at booking.
