Rent Short-Term Storage with Pick-Up Service in Netherlands

MoverMate stores your things for €15 a week for a room load and €30 a week for a studio or one-bedroom flat. Minimum storage period is 2 weeks. We collect everything with our own van and driver and bring it back when you need it — pickup and redelivery are billed at our normal rate of €49 an hour, minimum 1.5 hours (€73.50), transport on top. What does storage cost per week?

A room load is €15 a week. A studio or one-bedroom flat is €30 a week. That's the whole storage price — no deposit, no admin fee, nothing to pay when you take your things back out. Pickup and redelivery are quoted separately at €49 an hour with a 1.5-hour minimum, because those are van jobs and the price depends on where you are and how much you've got.

- Room (bed, desk, chair 10–15 boxes) — €15/week, €60 per 4 weeks

Do I have to bring my things to you?

No. We come to your address with the van and driver and load everything, the same way we do a move. You don't rent anything, borrow a car, or haul boxes across town. That's the main difference between us and a self-storage unit, where getting everything to the building is your problem.

We load and unload at street level. If you need help bringing things down from a flat, our driver can help with 2-3 items.

How is this different from a self-storage unit?

A self-storage unit is an empty room you rent - you handle the transport. Managed storage means the transport and the storage are one booking: we collect, we store, we bring it back. For a room or a studio, the transport is the expensive and annoying part, not the square metres.

Why do people need storage between two rentals?

Your room ends on the 31st and the new place starts on the 15th. Two weeks with nowhere to put anything, and no landlord willing to bend. We collect on the 31st, store it, and deliver to the new address on the 15th. This is the most common reason people message us about storage, and it's why the minimum is 2 weeks rather than a month — a month minimum makes you pay for two weeks you don't need.

Can I store my room over the summer?

Yes, and it's usually far cheaper than keeping the room. If you're going home for July and August or doing an exchange semester, storing a room for three months costs €180. In most of the Randstad that's less than a fortnight of rent. We collect before you fly out and deliver to whatever address you land at in September — it doesn't have to be the same one.

Where does MoverMate store your things?

In a locked, dry, ground-floor space in the Den Haag and Delft area. Your things stay together as one labelled lot rather than being split across shelves, so nothing gets mixed up with anyone else's belongings. We photograph and list everything at pickup and send you that list on WhatsApp, so there's a record of exactly what went in and what should come back out.

Which cities do you collect from?

Pickup is quickest from Den Haag, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Delft, Rotterdam, Leiden and Zoetermeer, since the storage space sits in the middle of those seven.The weekly storage price is identical, only the van time changes. A week's notice is comfortable. End of month is the busiest period in every Dutch student city, so book earlier if your contract ends on the 30th or 31st.

Frequently asked questions

1. Do I need to pack everything into boxes before you collect?

Boxes make it faster and safer, but you do not need to be perfectly packed. Clothes can stay in a suitcase or a sturdy bag, and furniture travels as it is. What matters is that loose items are in something we can carry and stack — a bag of unboxed kitchen things is what slows a pickup down and pushes it into a second billed hour.

2. Do I have to be there when you collect my things?

Someone does, because we go through the items together and you get the photo list before we drive off. It does not have to be you. A housemate, a partner or a friend with access to the room is fine, as long as you tell us in advance who to expect and they can point at what goes and what stays.

3. Can I extend my storage if my plans change?

Yes, and you do not need to do anything formal. Storage is billed by the week, so if your new place is delayed by three weeks, you keep paying the weekly rate for three more weeks. Message us when you know your new date. There is no extension fee and no new minimum period.

4. Can I get part of my things back before the end?

Yes. If you need one or two items back mid-way, we bring them on a separate trip at the normal €49 per hour rate with the 1.5-hour minimum. Tell us at pickup which items you might want early and we keep those at the front, so we are not unpacking the whole lot to reach one box.

5. Can you deliver to a different address than you collected from?

Yes, and most people do. Storage usually sits between two different homes, so we expect the delivery address to be new. We only need it a few days ahead. If the new address is much further away, the van time changes and we tell you the difference before you agree to it.

6. Can someone else receive my things if I am still abroad?

Yes. Give us their name and number in advance and we hand over to them. This comes up constantly with exchange students who fly back later than their contract starts. We send the photo list to both of you, so whoever opens the door can check the delivery against what went in.

7. Can you store a bike?

Yes, and it counts inside the room load rather than as an extra. Take off anything loose like a pannier, a light or a phone mount, since small parts are the things that go missing in any move. A bike, a bed and the usual boxes still fit within the €15 a week size.

8. Are there things you cannot store?

Food and anything perishable, plants, animals, and anything hazardous such as gas canisters, paint or fuel. We also ask you to keep passports, residence documents, cash and jewellery with you rather than putting them in storage. It is a short list, and if you are unsure about a specific item, ask before pickup rather than on the day.
