The Netherlands has 14 IKEA locations. Most are on the outskirts of cities, designed for car access. If you do not own a car, if your car is too small for flat-pack furniture, or if you simply do not want the hassle of transporting a PAX wardrobe in a hatchback — a van + driver is the practical solution.

IKEA's own delivery starts at €39.99 for truck delivery, with time windows that can stretch across an entire day. Parcel delivery starts at €2.99 but only covers smaller items. For large furniture — wardrobes, bed frames, desks, sofas, kitchen units — you are left with two choices: IKEA truck delivery on their schedule, or arranging your own transport.

The problem is straightforward. Most people buying large IKEA furniture fall into one of these situations:

No car or too small a car. A KALLAX shelving unit, a MALM bed frame, or a HEMNES dresser does not fit in a regular car. Many students, expats, and city residents in the Netherlands do not own a car at all.

Multiple large items in one trip. Furnishing a new apartment often means buying a bed, desk, wardrobe, and shelving in a single IKEA run. That volume requires a van.

IKEA delivery windows do not fit your schedule. IKEA offers delivery slots but they are broad and inflexible. If you have a key handover at 2pm and need furniture in the apartment by 4pm, you need a service that works on your timeline.

Click & Collect items too large for your vehicle. You ordered online, chose Click & Collect to save on delivery, and now realise the packages are too large for your car.

Returning to an IKEA store with bulky items. Returns of large items need a van too — and IKEA only accepts returns in-store (except the Leeuwarden Plan and Order Point).

In all of these cases, a van + driver at €49/hour solves the problem faster and more flexibly than IKEA's own delivery.

Step 1: You shop. Buy your items in-store or place a Click & Collect order online. If shopping in person, the driver can wait at the loading area while you finish checkout — or you can schedule the pickup for after you are done.

Step 3: We confirm. We reply with availability and a cost estimate. No deposit, no commitment until you say yes.

Step 4: The driver arrives at IKEA. The van pulls up at the store's loading area at the agreed time. The driver loads your purchases into the van.

Step 5: Direct delivery. The driver transports your items and unloads them at your address.

What is included: the van, the driver, loading at IKEA, transport, and unloading at your entrance.

What is not included: furniture assembly, unpacking, carrying items through building interiors, or waiting inside the store during your shopping (the driver waits at the loading area). This is a transport-focused service.

The driver collects your items from the store's loading area and delivers to any address in the Netherlands. Whether your IKEA is five minutes from your apartment or in a different city entirely, the same service and pricing apply.

The rate is €49 per hour for the van and driver. Fuel is calculated separately based on distance. The clock starts when the driver arrives at IKEA and stops when the last item is unloaded at your address.

Short local pickup (IKEA to address in the same city): typically 1–1.5 hours. Time: €49–€73.50, fuel ≈ €8–€15. Total: approximately €57–€89.

Medium-distance pickup (e.g. IKEA Delft to Den Haag, IKEA Barendrecht to Rotterdam centre): typically 1.5–2 hours. Time: €73.50–€98, fuel ≈ €12–€20. Total: approximately €86–€118.

Longer pickup (e.g. IKEA Amsterdam to Almere, IKEA Utrecht to Amersfoort): typically 1.5–2 hours. Time: €73.50–€98, fuel ≈ €15–€25. Total: approximately €89–€123.

What affects the total time: how quickly items are available at the loading area, the volume of packages (a single KALLAX loads faster than a full apartment's worth of furniture), driving distance, and access conditions at your address (parking proximity, elevator vs ground floor).

Compared to IKEA's own delivery: IKEA truck delivery starts at €39.99 but comes with broad time windows, no flexibility on timing, and delivery to the threshold only. Complete your purchase before the driver arrives. The driver waits at the loading area, not inside the store. Finish checkout, collect your items (or have Click & Collect ready), and have everything at the loading point.

Know your item count and sizes. When booking, tell us how many packages you have and roughly how large they are. "Three flat-packs, the largest is about 2 metres" is enough. This helps us estimate time accurately.

Check your address access. Can the van stop close to your building entrance? Is there a loading zone? Do you live on the third floor without a lift? Share this when booking — the driver delivers to your entrance (threshold level), not through the building.

Be at the delivery address. Someone needs to be present to receive the items. If you are shopping at IKEA while the driver collects Click & Collect items, coordinate timing so you arrive home before or at the same time as the van.
